Do you or have you lived in Yorkshire? Do you want to become part of the Newsvine groups set up to give people from Yorkshire local news for local people? The answer is probably no. I've not come across many Yorkshire Newsviners but I'm hoping to change that.
I've set up two groups. One is for the whole county of Yorkshire and one is for my own fair city of Leeds. I'm hoping that I can find more people who want to write local stuff about Leeds and the rest of Yorkshire. I'm also hoping that in time other people will want to set up their own groups for different towns and cities in Yorkshire.
If you're interested please join this group and tell your Yorkshire friends about it. I also think I'm going to have to do some other things to attract a Leeds and Yorkshire based readership. Does anyone have any ideas?
Hey, RichardG, and you couldn't have a better cohort than David Rutt. Just visited both papers. I think this is the way Groups was meant to be used. I am so glad I am not alone out here. If I come upon anything that we can use in our pursuits I will certainly pass it on to you.
Building and keeping readership is the first step. To do that people have to know how to find you, read you and then come back again. I have and will continue to place free classifieds for Coshocton News. I have family and friends who will place notices on bulletin boards. I keep talking about Newsvine to every contact I make. I have had the advantage of local papers giving out my url. Letting people know you are around is the first step. The next thing is to have interesting material for readers when they do show up. That takes creativity, maybe a slight bit of sensationalism, and a constant changing of material so those that return are not turned off by a static site.
