On Tuesday September 19, when you get up, you may notice something different from other normal days. You may encounter people talking strangely, they may be dressed strangely and they may use the word 'Arrrr' more frequently than necessary. You may not, but I'm hoping we all will.

Back in 1995 two people decided to declare September 19 as an international public holiday, where everyone should talk like a pirate. Not every country has officially adopted International Talk Like a Pirate Day as their own, but its popularity is growing and surely it will only be a matter of time.

Something bound to get the day more attention this year will be a special episode of Wife Swap to be shown by ABC on Monday September 18 at 9pm. The wife of one of the founders of Talk Like a Pirate Day, who takes pirating very seriously will swap with the wife of a professional organizer. It's sure to be another great episode and a great advertising stunt to boost the popularity of this very worthwhile day.

So, next Tuesday, I hope like me, you will put on your best pirate voice and greet all you meet with a hearty 'Ahoy' and say 'Arrr' at the end of every other sentence. The more committed of you may even don pirate gear and get yourself a parrot.

If like me, you can only think of two pirate words, you may also want to consult this pirate vocabulary. It has all the basics and some some rather dubious chat up lines that you may wish to try.

Happy pirating!

I have already been warned that funny accents will not be tollerated in the work place, even on such an important day! THE MAN be trying to keep down the pirate masses from expressing themselves in all our swashbuckling glory.

I'm in the mist of making a Joly Roger to hang in my cubicle after lunch as a protest!
